Our family lived in the magical Ashton Wold for four years and we still consider it our home from home. We enjoyed the privacy and beauty of rural living in traditionally maintained countryside and woodland that also benefited from good transport links and a bustling town just two miles away. The friendly community however has to be the best part of living in Ashton; with regularly organised family events with the Chequered Skipper being the epicentre of all entertainment, the best part being of course a stroll home instead of an elusive and extortionate taxi!
Our children, five and six remember the wildlife most of all. Deer, monkjack, rabbits, pheasants, bees, red kites, owls, bats; all of which had been seen in the garden (or house!) at one time or another. An education that you just can’t buy anywhere else! I particularly miss being able to run from my front door through woodland and back roads without seeing a car for miles, much cheaper than joining a gym. We hope one day to return…
